Description
INTERNET NETWORK AVAILABILITY:
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) has not been enabled on the internet routers. BGP is the protocol used to exchange information between Internet service providers (ISPs).
If there is a disruption in ISP services, BGP would allow for a failover to redundant internet access without business interruption. BGP should be enabled on the border internet routers.
CLIENT will require the assistance of external resources with extensive experience (Cisco CCIE level) with BGP to develop the architecture, implementation plan and deployment strategy. The internal network staff will be cross-trained while assisting with the implementation.
INTERNET NETWORK AVAILABILITY
• Register a POC (point of contact), an OrgID (organization id) and an ASN (autonomous system number) and with ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers)
• Request a /24 subnet from an existing Internet Service Provider (ISP)
• Deploy BGP routing protocol on the existing internet routers and ISPs
• Document the existing Internet IP subnets and all active hosts on each subnet
• Schedule the phased migration of internet hosts to the new BGP subnet
• Coordinate relevant DNS changes from the old subnets to the new BGP subnet
• Release old IP subnets to ISPs once all the internet hosts have been migrated to BGP.
